A Pit Stop In Virginia

Our first pit stop was mid-Virginia.  We saw signs for the Natural Bridge and, in need of a rest break, we decided it would be a good place to stop.  The Natural Bridge is one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World.  It was owned by Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington carved his initials into the base of the bridge (you can still see them in the box below!).

The bridge is higher than Niagara Falls and visitors can enjoy walking the scenic pathway under and around it.  There was a fee to enter this area, but after seeing the bridge and walking the nature path…we deemed it worthwhile.  They also provide a shuttle to bus you back to the top of the mountain, which came in handy after traveling the nature path and spending time around the bridge.

If you're in the Virginia area and need a pit stop, I'd recommend checking out the Natural Bridge.  We never even heard of it, but we're glad we stopped.

Now, we're off to Pigeon Forge!  My butt is already hurtin' after a few hours on the bike, but I refuse to complain until it starts raining!  Let's hope the next few hours will get us to the Volunteer state!
